I visited with my wedding makeup artist Lynette Nickell recently at the amazing new Lauren Wood Makeup and Tanning Studio in Dunsborough.  I haven’t changed makeup artists, Lynette is now based out of a gorgeous studio, but still travels to you for your special day.

It is a stunning new space just newly opened offering highly skilled makeup and spray tanning services, for weddings and those who have special occasions or would love to stock up on some Napoleon Perdis or Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics products.  The space is minimalist with a touch of understated glamour with black walls, mirrors, discreet lighting, white chairs and a slick shiny new makeup bar filled with Napoleon Perdis goodies.

In the back, is a fabulous dedicated space for spray tanning.

The preparation I did on my own face before I arrived was to remove makeup, cleanse and tone with my normal products, I applied Invisible Zinc’s ESP Moisturiser 30+ (just loving it!) and then a mattifying product I use under makeup, Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying concentrate Serum, but mine is an older version and without Retinol.  I use a very small amount and it’s very lightweight, it kind of feels like it fills your pores and smooths your skin out, basically a mattifer and pore minimiser.  Lynette also uses a Napoleon Perdis primer.

I was invited to take a seat and we discussed the changes I wanted to make to my wedding look from the first trial, which included no shimmer highlighter as the photographer asked for matte makeup, more focus on eyeshadow with graduated colour (I forgot my makeup pictures so I described the graduated colour) and a decision about whether to use undereye eyeliner.  I had brought my wedding dress swatch and fascinator to show Lynette my dress colours and this was inspiration for some dusky pink eyeshadow.  Lynette set to working on my face and we had a great chat.

For trial photos, I recommend taking pictures both inside and outside and in different lighting so you can truly see what the makeup is like.  I’m not sharing the inside ones, I’m pulling the worst facials and I don’t like the photos of me, but the makeup looks good! Here are some ones from outside I’m okay with;

The results from this trial were fantastic, a totally different look, but much softer and more suited to my evolved wedding look since the June trial.  We went for a graduated eye colour, with a white in the corner to make my eyes pop, then a dusky pink and a dark gray.  We chose a darker lipstick colour this time but I will also buy an NP sheer lip veil or something similar as well for the day, to go over the top of the lipstick, as I preferred the glossier lip from the first trial.  I am also going to show Lynette the second trial photos and ask for a slightly darker finish on the end of my eyelid and slightly heavier eyeliner on the top – so slightly more smoky eye, but not much more.  I will also have some half fake Wasp eyelashes on the day to really finish the look.

I now feel totally confident about my wedding day makeup.  I am absolutely thrilled and can’t recommend Lynette highly enough for a professional and skilled approach to your wedding day makeup.

If you feel happy and excited with the results of your makeup trial after looking at post photos, then go ahead and book them!

Lynette used mainly Napoleon Perdis makeup including the following products;

  • Napoleon Perdis Sheer Genius Liquid Foundation
  • Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish Powder Foundation in No 1 (also using to touch up on the day)
  • Napoleon Perdis Colour Discs
  • Napoleon Perdis Loose Eye Dust
  • Napoleon Perdis Mosaic Powder & Puff
  • Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Lipstick (a new makeup favourite for me) in Cedar (also using to touch up on the day)

Lynette is also stocking amazing nail colours from Butter London and I found the perfect nail colour for my wedding day.
