My second day of wedding dress shopping was a bit more relaxed with one appointment at Brides by Design, located in Barrack street, Perth.

Brides by Design

Established in 1998, Brides by Design specialise in couture made to measure gowns.  They encourage brides to express their style using beautiful fabrics and embellishments from France, Italy and Spain.  You can choose a base dress and basically create your own beautiful designer gown with the help of their experienced staff.

I met with Tash and she asked me about my wedding and what I liked and let me choose some dresses to try.  I found two that I really liked, but one was out of my price range at 5K+ in a liquid silk and the other was in my price range and very similar to the gowns I loved at Hobnob and Samantha Wynne.  The difference at Brides by Design was I could basically design the gown, which I totally loved and I think if you are creative and love fashion, this could be a fantastic option for you, particularly if you can’t find a dress you like.

I felt nervous about the custom design side.  I like to see things before I buy them, even pictures aren’t enough, I need to see its true form and what if the final dress I created didn’t make me feel like a princess?  I think the base dress is a critical factor here, it has to feel amazingly special on you before you even start on the additional design process.

When I later revisited this boutique with my support team, they said the gown was beautiful but I was essentially trying to recreate a version of the gown I loved at Samantha Wynne and that it just didn’t compare.  So I let them know it wasn’t the one for me and we went on our way.
